Mount Tabor High School senior Natalie Tyson has verbally committed to attend East Carolina University and compete for the volleyball program beginning next fall, according to an announcement Monday by head coach Julie Torbett.
Tyson, a 5-8 outside hitter, helped lead the Spartans to consecutive Piedmont Triad Conference titles her junior and senior campaigns as well as a 72-25 record in four years on the varsity squad. With Tyson on the roster, Mount Tabor lost just five conference matches from 2014-17. As a senior, she led the team in both kills and digs while earning all-conference honors and team MVP accolades.
“Natalie is an amazing athlete that has the potential to explode as a collegiate volleyball player,” Torbett said. “I love her spirit and drive, but her leaping ability is what sets her apart from other athletes. She will compete for time on the outside and could develop into a standout six-rotation outside hitter at ECU.”
Tyson played club volleyball for Twin City Volleyball Academy and was named to the 2016 Regionals All-Conference Team.
