GPD: Shooting Victim Not Cooperating With Investigators

Detectives with the Greenville Police Department are investigating a Wednesday night shooting on Broad Street where a man was shot in the legs and buttocks but refuses to cooperate with investigators.

According to a news release issued Thursday by the Greenville Police Department, officers responded about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday to a report of gunshots fired at the 1400 block of Broad Street. Officers did not locate any victims on-the scene but multiple shell casings were found on the ground. However, police were alerted shortly after by officials at Vidant Medical Center that a gunshot victim had been dropped off at the Emergency Department, the release said.

The victim – 34-year-old Alex Stancil – was shot in the leg and buttocks and sustained non life-threatening injuries, the release said.

Although officers have been able to place Stancil on Broad Street during the time of the shooting, Stancil has refused to provide investigators with any information as to why he was in the area or the identity of who shot him, the release said. The release said that Stancil has made it known to detectives that he does not intend to cooperate with the investigation.

Officers have collected shell casings from the scene and also have seized a vehicle believed to have been involved in the incident, the release said. Investigators will be looking for witnesses and conducting additional interviews in the area.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the Greenville Police Department at 252-329-4315 or Crime Stoppers at 252-758-7777. Crime Stoppers is offering up to a $2,500 reward for information that leads to an arrest.
