The Greenville Police Department issued a statement to parents of students at J.H. Rose High School that an alledged social media threat made towards the school is being investigated and police do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the schol.
Greenville police spokeswoman Kristen Hunter said in an email that the department was made aware on Tuesday night of a picture circulating on social media that was perceived by many as a threat toward J.H. Rose High School. The police department and Pitt County Schools took immediate action and identified the individual in the photo.
The person in the photo was contacted by the police department and interviewed by investigators, Hunter said.
Hunter said detectives do not believe there is any ongoing threat to the school at this time. However, the Greenville Police Department sent additional resources to the school campus on Wednesday as an added reassurance for concerned parents and students.
Hunter said that the individual had not been charged as of 10 a.m. Wednesday but the investigation continues.
