Suspect in Weekend Stabbing Apprehended

The suspect in a weekend stabbing faces multiple charges after trying to elude police and being apprehended Monday on West Fifth Street.
Tyrell Best, 33, of 508-B Contentnea St., Greenville, faces was charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder and one count each of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflict serious injury; assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill; discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle; discharging a firearm in the city; possession of a firearm by a felon; carrying a concealed weapon; resisting a public officer; possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana; and possession of marijuana paraphernalia. He was being held at the Pitt County Detention Center.
Greenville police officers responded about 6 p.m. Monday to the area of the H&K Mart on West Fifth Street in reference to a suspect wanted for attempted murder. Best exited the store and fled on foot.
As officers pursued, Best discarded a firearm, which discharged when it hit the ground it discharged. He was apprehended about one block away after a Taser deployment.
Best’s firearm was recovered.
Best was the suspect in a weekend stabbing and shots fired incident at the corner of Ward and Davis streets.
The apprehension was the combined efforts of the Greenville Police Department Violent Crime Apprehension Unit, Greenville Police Field Operations Officers, and the N.C. SBI Fugitive Task Force.
