Obituary for David Lee Martin

Mr. David Lee “Dave” Martin, 85, died Saturday, October 7, 2017.
The funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 4 PM in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Dave, son of the late John and Louise Martin, was born and spent his early life in Cramerton, NC. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from East Carolina University in 1955, where he played on the golf team. He served in the US Army for two years and began teaching school in Townsville, NC. He later moved to Clarksville, VA to serve as the golf pro at Kinderton Country Club. In 1972, Dave made his home in Greenville to become the golf pro at Brook Valley Country Club. He later was employed with Pitt Community College as a coordinator and coached the golf team for several years. Dave was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and in several other capacities.
In addition to his parents Dave was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Mike Bostic; brothers, John and Milton Martin; and a sister, Carolyn Mims.
He is survived by his: wife of 59 years, Shirley Smith Martin; daughters, Alicia Martin Baker and husband, Robert, of Greenville, and Kim Martin Bostic of Winterville; grandchildren, Christina Baker Riddle and husband, Jeremy, and Nicholas L. “Nick” Bostic, all of Winterville; brother, Lt. Col. (Ret) James D. Martin and wife, Saundra, of Peachtree City, GA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church, 1101 S. Elm St., Greenville, NC 27858 or to a charity of one’s choice.
