Obituary for Pennie Johnston Dunn

Mrs. Pennie Johnston Dunn, 85, passed away Saturday, October 7, 2017.
A graveside funeral service will be conducted Monday at 11AM at Pinewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the cemetery.
Mrs. Dunn, daughter of the late Adrian Jordan and Bessie Clark Johnston, was a native and life-long resident of Greenville. She was a cashier and bookkeeper for 28 years with Colonial Stores/Big Star Foods, and continued working in management at Western Sizzlin Restaurant prior to retiring in July 1997. She was a former member of United Food and Commercial Workers Union.
Mrs. Dunn served as a member of the Board of Directors of the American Diabetes Association – Pitt County Chapter for a number of years, serving as President for two of those years. She served as President, Secretary, Treasurer, and was an active Board Member with the Association for Retarded Citizens/Pitt County for many years. She was a longtime member of the Pocahontas for which she was a Past Great Pocahontas and served as treasurer for many years. She was also a member of First Presbyterian Church and the Greenville Civitan Club.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Dunn was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Gray Dunn, Jr.; brothers, Garland Johnston, Samuel Earl Johnston, Adrian Jordan Johnston, Jr., and Arthur Lee Johnston.; and sisters, Gladys Leona Clark-Johnston and Elsie Ernestine Johnston, Margie Johnston Ross.
She is survived by her:
son, Henry Gerald Dunn of Greenville;
daughters, Judy Dunn James and husband, Stephen, and
Sharlene Dunn Cowan and husband, Glen, all of Robersonville; and
Jamie Arlene Dunn Rose of Greenville;
grandchildren, Miriam Kemp and husband, Powell, of Scotland Neck,
Glen Edward Cowan, Jr. of Robersonville,
Brad Turner Cowan and wife, Allison,
Charles David Briley,
Henry Martin Wilson and
Bruce Allen Rose, Jr., all of Greenville;
great grandchildren, Ava James and Josie Kemp and Madison Cowan;
sisters, Bessie Johnston Joyner and husband, Rick, of Greenville;
Linda Lou Johnston Dowd of Greenville;
and special family, Bobby Ray and Vivian Hudson and
Bobbie Jo Taylor and husband, Randy, and
Evan Yu-Lin Wu.
