Obituary for Wayne John McEwen

Wayne John McEwen, March 3rd 1941 – October 11th 2017, passed away peacefully at his home in Grimesland, NC, with his family by his side.
A private service and Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Mr. McEwen was born in Heightstown, NJ and spent his early years attending Middletown public schools. He is a graduate of Orange County Community College, SUNY Oswego, and Michigan State University. After graduating from college and teaching for a year in California, Wayne began working for the Department of Defense in Lybia North Africa, followed by a year teaching in Madrid Spain. After this, he received two National Science Foundation Scholarships; one at the University of New Mexico studying Geology and the other for his Master’s program at Michigan State University. Wayne was a Science Teacher in the Monroe Woodbury Central School District for 33 years (1971-2004).
Wayne was an avid world traveler, tennis player, golfer, and a little league coach, staying active in his sons and grandson’s daily life. He was a dedicated father and the ultimate grandfather to Todd’s son, Cameron, and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Mr. McEwen was preceded in death by his parents, John and Beulah McEwen.
He is survived by his:
wife, Susan Freer McEwen;
sons, Seth and his wife, Victoria McEwen, of Pittsburgh, PA; and
Todd and his wife, Gina McEwen, of Pinetops, NC;
grandson, Cameron McEwen;
sisters, Linda McEwen Grogan and husband, Dan, of Hilton Head, SC; and
Jill McEwen Areson and husband, Dave, of Middletown, NY;
brother, Terry McEwen of Hilton Head, SC; and
several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Brain Tumor Association, 8550 W. Bryn Mawr Avenue, Suite 550, Chicago, IL 60631.
