Winterville,NC- It all starts Thursday! The annual Watermelon Festival of Winterville is back and it’s finishing out your summer with a weekend full of festival fun!
For over 30 years the town of Winterville, North Carolina has been hosting a festival that honors a favorite summer treat. Watermelon. This fresh, tasty fruit is a key part of Eastern North Carolina summers, and the Watermelon Festival centers around locals love for this delicious fruit. Anyone who finds themselves at the Watermelon Festival will be immersed in a fun, family friendly atmosphere that provides entertainment for people of all ages and every walk of life.
The 2017 festival officially kicks off on Thursday, August 24th at the Winterville Recreation Park. The celebration continues into the weekend with different attractions on Friday the 25th and Saturday the 26th.
-Thursday: Thursday night is the start of the festival. Event goers can enjoy your common festival rides and foods along with local vendors who will have stands set up along the park road. There will be wristbands available for purchase on Wednesday and Thursday night for $20 each. The bands will allow the wearer unlimited access to rides for the entire night! Live music will begin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday evening with performances from the local band Train Wreck, and at 8:30 the stage will be taken by Machine Gun.
-Friday: Friday night is family fun night! This is a great night to bring the entire family to the festival. Starting at 6 p.m. there will be children’s games and activities which are sponsored by the Winterville Civitan Club. Food and vendors will also be available, and more live music will be played from the bands Pamlico Sounds Machine, The Limits, and The Legacy Motown Revue.
-Saturday: Saturday is the final day of the festival, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a load of fun going on! Start the day off early at 8:00 a.m. with the Veteran Appreciation Breakfast and Opening Ceremonies at Winterville Baptist Church. Also starting at 8 will be a car show sponsored by the Winterville Fire Department. From 8 to 11 owners can register their vehicles with judging beginning at 12 p.m. Early festivities continue with the annual Watermelon Festival Parade which will begin at 10:00 a.m. Saturday morning and will run down Church and Main Street in Winterville. After the parade make your way over to the park for a day of Watermelon Jams! Rides, food trucks, and vendors will be up and running starting at 11:00 a.m. with the annual watermelon eating contest at 11 as well! Also be sure to grab yourself a spot for the Watermelon Jams concert which starts at 6:00 p.m.! This is a FREE concert for all who wish to attend. Starting off the show at 6 will be the band Dakota Blue who will be followed at 7 by singer Kasey Tyndall. After Tyndall, Jackie Lee will be performing starting at 8:15, and finally rounding out the show and the festival is Locash who will take the stage at 9:30 p.m.
The Watermelon festival is packed with hours of entertainment for everyone! With everything from rides to great food, friends, live music, local goods and of course FREE WATERMELON, this is one event you do not want to miss!
