Conley Volleyball Stays Unbeaten

NEW BERN — Macy Smith smashed 14 kills and Mary Horton had 15 assists and five aces as D.H. Conley’s undefeated volleyball team swept past New Bern on Thursday.

The Vikings, who have dropped just two sets all year, prevailed 25-20, 25-21, 25-17 to improve to 9-0 overall and 3-0 in the Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference. Conley travels to cross-county rival J.H. Rose on Tuesday.

Alannah Thomas added nine kills in the win over the Bears. Claire Scemama had four blocks, and Courtney Rupp was credited with 12 assists.

Conley’s junior varsity also stayed unbeaten with a 25-7, 25-15 win over New Bern. Ellie Yancey had a team-high six kills; Cameron Smith had three kills and three blocks; and Sara Dees had four blocks and six aces.

Knightdale defeats Conley in soccer

KNIGHTDALE — Knightdale scored a pair of second-half goals to defeat D.H. Conley 2-0 in non-conference boys’ soccer on Thursday.

Knightdale also prevailed in the junior varsity match, taking a 4-1 win. Caleb Escamilla scored the lone goal for the Vikings on an assist from Lukas Rickenback on a corner kick.

Conley’s varsity hosts Farmville Central on Monday at 5 p.m. The junior varsity hosts Jacksonville on Thursday.

West Craven blanks Ayden-Grifton in tennis

LITTLEFIELD — West Craven swept past host Ayden-Grifton to take a 9-0 win in girls’ tennis on Thursday.

The Chargers Nakiyah Rodgers and and Summer Sullivan took the opening set of their matches but fell in three sets. Abi Peck got past Rodgers 6-7 (6-8), 6-2, 10-1 at No. 3 singles. Kaitlyn Hacker defeated Sullivan 4-6, 6-0, 10-6 at No. 5.

West Craven’s Grace Peck defeated Nyashia Sutton 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1; Katie Edwards defeated Sari Dosch 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2; Lainey Meekins defeated Anna DeCresie 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4; and Allison Robinett blanked Michele Garcia 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.

In doubles, Grace Peck and Meekins knocked off Sutton and Dosch 8-3 at No. 1; Edwards and Abi Peck defeated Rodgers and DeCresie 8-5 at No. 2; and Hacker and Robinett defeated Sullivan and Garcia 8-1 at No. 3.

Ayden-Grifton (1-2) travels to Washington on Tuesday.
