Diaz Returns To Southern National Speedway With Stellar Night

LUCAMA, NC- Mason Diaz returned to Southern National Speedway Park and dominated both races to increase his win total to 4 at SNS. The 17 year old is a 2nd generation up-and-coming racer from Manassas, VA. His father Mike Diaz raced legends at Old Dominion Speedway until it closed and then purchased Southern National Speedway Park.

Mason has been racing since a young age but started racing Legends in 2015 and then started competing part-time in the Pro Late Model in the PASS Series for Mike Darne Racing. Diaz stated that he is currently driving and competing in the Nascar Whelen All-America Series in a Late Model at Hickory Motor Speedway, Caraway Speedway and at Southern National Speedway where he has a 17 point lead.

Mason Diaz started the first race Saturday night for the Remember the Fallen 225 on the pole for Mike Darne Racing. Diaz had a strong car along with his teammate Jonathan Findley both had strong cars but with only two laps to go Diaz executed a bump-and run on teammate Findley to take the lead and win the first 40 lap race.

“The pass with Findley at the end of the run, had to do what I had to do to win,” Diaz stated. “He would’ve done the same to me, at least I hope he would.

Diaz started the second race in eight due to the field being inverted but his Teammate Findley was unable to compete due to mechanical problems. Diaz was able to work his way through the field and taking the lead on lap 19 from Chris Chapman to score the win.

Diaz commented  that he “had to be patient”. “There was a whole bunch of side-by-side racing at the beginning and I just had to wait for it to file out and make my move to the front.”

On Friday Evening Diaz was at Caraway Speedway 4/10 mile track in Sophia, NC. Were he started on the pole for the 60 lap feature race but was involved in a wreck and was unable to finish the race. Diaz stated this was his first Late Model race.
